21 Savage sat down with Good Morning America’s Linsey Davis after recently being released from an ICE detention center and he detailed what happened when he was arrested last month.
Savage said that he wasn’t even told by officials that he was being arrested, “I was just driving. And I just seen guns and blue lights. And, then, I was in the back of a car. And I was gone. They didn’t say nothing. They just said, ‘We got Savage.’”
Savage is taking the recent events in stride, saying that he’s looking forward to the silver lining in staying nine days in a cell, “I learned to embrace the times when I’m down ’cause they always build me up and take me to a new level in life. So it’s like even if I’m sitting in a cell on 23-hour lockdown, in my mind, I know what’s gonna come after that. So I’m not happy about it. But I’m accepting of it.”
Savage explained that he came to the United States at 7-years-old then traveled back to London when his Uncle Foster passed away, after the funeral he returned, Savage says he believes ICE was confused about when he actually first came to the States.
While 21 Savage waits for his immigration status to secure his citizenship, which could take a while, should he speak out musically about his arrest?
