Jennifer Lopez was one of the many women honored at Thursday nights Billboard Women In Music event.
Lopez was honored with the Icon Award, joining the ranks of Aretha Franklin, Shania Twain, Mary J. Blige, Cyndi Lauper, and last year’s honoree Alanis Morissette.
During her acceptance speech talked about her passions for music and dance and how her mother influenced her to pursue her dreams.
“My mom used to put me on the kitchen table and would show me how to do the booty shake, or we’d sing the oldies, whatever was at the top of the Billboard charts at the time,” said Lopez. “Those are my first performances. It’s what inspired me to do what I’ve had the privilege to do for all of you all these years.”
Cardi B accepted her Billboard Woman of the Year award on Thursday evening which was presented by Breonna Taylor’s mother, Tamika Palmer.
Ms. Palmer noted that Cardi was one of the most outspoken advocates for Breonna and credited Cardi for sharing the truth about her murder.
While accepting the Woman of the Year Award Cardi spoke about the difficulties of creating in 2020 and her gratefulness for being able to put out “WAP” with Megan Thee Stallion.
Cardi wrapped up her speech with encouraging words for girls and women everywhere, “You gotta be ambitious. You gotta network. You gotta become great at what you do. You gotta be able to take criticism…There’s hope. There’s hope for your dreams.”
Plus, Beyonce presented her proteges Chloe x Halle with the Rising Star Award at the 2020 Billboard Women in Music.
She appeared virtually last night.
Beyonce said, Ladies, I am so proud of you. You’ve done this with authenticity with grace with raw talent. I’ll always love you.
Fans noted Beyonce’s curly hair saying she looked like her mom’s twin.
