Is everything I know, a lie? I’m no scientist, but I didn’t think this was possible. It’s come to some scientists’ attention the Earth’s core may have slowed its rotation before completely switching directions back in 2009.

According to a report published in Nature Geoscience, Earth’s iron core slowed its rotation in 2009. It briefly fell in sync with the planet’s overall rotation during this time. The change in the rotation impacted the length of the day by a fraction of a millisecond over 12 months. One cycle of the swing is about 7 decades, so we have a while until the next.

It may seem like nothing, but I want that millisecond back!

Who knew?!
