SongFest for Vets at the South Floirda Fair
May 13 @ 4:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Music has always been key to surviving the toughest times in life. Sometimes when we hear a certain song it can take us back to a specific instant as though we never left. No one understands that better than our Veterans. Music and memories
will come together in a unique and entertaining way, at an event called SongFest for Vets from 4-10pm on May 13, 2021 at the South Florida Fair at the Main Stage. Veterans told their stories of how certain songs got them through combat and deployments. Those stories will be read aloud and popular local rock bands will perform those songs to honor and preserve those memories and sacrifices.
The South Florida Fair, which runs May 7 – 23, is excited to host this unique event. SongFest for Vets, which occurs on May 13, has been designated as “Heroes Day” by the South Florida Fair. Active Duty, Reservists, Veterans and First Responders will receive discounted tickets that day. The South Florida Fair is providing the stage, lights, technical support for SongFest. The idea for SongFest came about when members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 9610 in Lake Park began reminiscing about the songs that really meant something to them during the most difficult times that anyone can face, overseas, away from home, and at war. The songs they discussed honored brothers and sisters who are not with us now, or motivated them to action, or gave them the perseverance to make it through the darkest and hardest of times. Those songs are honored in the name of the Vets who suggest them. Funds are being raised to support wounded, disabled and elderly Vets. Donations from this event will go to either the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund www.wvrf.org; The VFW Village where elderly Vets are provided homes and comradery www.vfwvillage.org; or for Service animals to disabled Veterans Paws 4 Liberty Facebook/Paws4Liberty/. Any donations are very much appreciated.
Wonderful sponsors who are helping to make this event possible include Guns and Ammo Training Center, Humana Health Insurance, T-Mobile, Tropical Logistix, The US Army, The US Navy. More are signing on every day.
KISS Alive…The Tribute played a key role in connecting the VFW to the South Florida Fair. They are a very talented foursome, who dress up, look and play just like the band KISS. Erasmith, an Aerosmith cover band, that can cover the gamut of songs that Vets are likely to select. Additionally, classic rockers Shovelhead will add style and great music to the event. Finally, Ricky the DJ will spin classic tunes between sets. SongFest for Vets will be COVID-prevention compliant. Masks and social distancing will be
required. Crowds will be kept to an organized and safe number, with performance breaks to ensure everyone stays safe.
Spend an entertaining afternoon honoring those who fought for our Freedom, and help us ensure the wounded, disabled and elderly Veterans have the support they need. Your donations will definitely help! Let’s Rock!
