Childish Gambino made history and was a big winner at last night’s Grammy awards and he wasn’t even in the building.
On the history side, his song “This Is America” became the first rap song to ever win Song of the Year and Record of the Year.
Gambino’s song also took home the hardware for Best Rap Performance and Best Music Video.
Are you upset that some rap superstars didn’t show up for the Grammys? Did you realize the history that was made by Childish Gambino’s wins?
Cardi B not only took home the Grammy hardware for Best Rap Album she also made history by winning the award.
With the win, Cardi became the first female solo rapper to win in the 20-year history of the Best Rap Album category.
“The nerves are so bad. Maybe I need to start smoking weed,” said a clearly nervous Cardi as she accepted the award.
Cardi got the nod for the award over other nominees in the category Nipsey Hustle, Mac Miller, Pusha T, and Travis Scott.
How happy were you when Cardi’s name was called for the win?
While many hip-hop artists decided to skip the Grammy awards, Drake thought otherwise and was in attendance to accept his award and took the time to speak on the Grammys alleged race issues. “We play in an opinion based sport, not a factual-based sport,” Drake began as he accepted his award for Best Rap Song. “You’ve already won if you have people who are singing your songs word for word if you’re a hero in your hometown.”
Drake went on to say that if you’re an artist and “have people with regular jobs coming out in the rain or in the snow to see your shows you already won.”
Drake’s message, while powerful, left many scratching their head and wondering why he was cut short during his speech.
Were you upset when Drake’s speech was cut short? Did it surprise you that Drake appeared at the Grammys?
Congratulations to Gabriella Wilson, aka H.E.R. on winning the Grammy for Best R&B Album.
H.E.R. was the only R&B singer nominated in the “big four” categories and was truly surprised when she got the nod for Best R&B album.
During her acceptance speech, H.E.R. said she’d been signed to RCA since she was 14 and pointed out that she won the award for an album that was actually an EP.
Did you think H.E.R. was going to win in the Best R&B album category? Have you heard the H.E.R. album?
