MLB Announces Shortened Season

Following a unanimous vote by team owners, Major League Baseball officials are moving forward with a shortened season. The vote, which occurred Monday evening, came after the Baseball Players Association rejected MLB’s latest proposal, which called for a 60-game season, an expanded postseason and no additional salary promises in the event the season is canceled due to the coronavirus.

According to The Athletic reports it will follow the rejected plan of 60 regular-season games. In a letter sent to the Players Association informing its members of the decision, the MLB has asked if players will report to training camp within seven days of July 1st and whether they’ll agree on a new operating manual that spells out health and safety protocols, Manfred says. The association has been given until 5 p.m. Tuesday to respond.
