Shakira facing tax fraud charges, will go to trial

Shakira has elected to go to trial, rejecting a a deal from the Spanish government after allegedly defrauding the government of millions.

In a statement released by her public relations team Shakira says she trusts her innocence and chooses to leave the issue in the hands of the law.

Spain’s government charged the “Hips Don’t Lie” singer in 2018 with failing to pay 14.5 million euros in taxes on income earned between 2012 and 2014. She faces a possible fine and prison sentence if she’s found guilty.

No details on the deal or trial date were released.
